New asbestos regulations were introduced in November 2005. Rule 278/05, Substances Asbestos Designated for Construction and Building Projects and Repair Operations, replaced the old Regulation 838. Major changes include:

1. Definition for asbestos-containing materials (ACM),

2. Reclassification of certain ACM operations,

3. New training programs for workers and supervisors for asbestos reduction,

4. The approval process to introduce new procedures that provide the same protection, and

5. New and latest requirements for:

- analysis of bulk samples,

- respiratory protection,

- operation glove bag,

- use of negative air pressure to prevent dust leakage, and

- clean air sampling, cleaning and testing.
