Advanced
Competence
In the
state of Alabama, to renew the license, the Board recently changed the
Administrative Code regarding the number of hours needed and several types of
classes. A minimum of ten hours is required by the state and ten hours, even in
a few years (2012, 2014), two hours must contain legal content, the application
of legal science for practical situations. The aim of this course is to provide
participants with a thorough understanding of the laws, rules, and regulations
governing the practice of Physical Therapy in Alabama.
The Alabama
Board of Physical Therapy selected new officers during November at several
meeting.
The director of SMC Physical Therapy, Wiley Christian, was elected as chairman
of the board, and Vincent
Molyneux,
also from the Department of SMC Physical Therapy, was re-elected to the
position of Secretary.
"Patients
and therapists will benefit from Wiley's leadership & also Vince on the
Therapy Board," said President and CEO of Springhill, Mr. Jeff St. Clair.
"We are fortunate to have this hard-working therapist on our team."
The
practice of physical therapy is a law that defines the scope & practice of
physical therapy in jurisdiction, which describes the licensing requirements
for Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants, and establishes
penalties for violating the law. In the United States, each country applies its
own practice measures, resulting in several variations among states, although
the Federation of State Council of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) has devised a model
definition to limit this variation.
Does the
law appear to be limiting? Why / why not?
I find this
action to be restrictive solely based on the fact that Alabama does not have
Direct Access. It has been submitted several times, but has not been skipped.
This is clearly under the definition of a Fyical Therapist in the state of
Alabama that Physical Therapy can only be done after a doctor's reference, etc.
