mechanical), function training, communication .
Physiotherapists specifically look at the body & the
potential needs of movement as the center for determining diagnosis and
intervention strategies and also consistent with any form where physiotherapy
practices are carried out. Forms of Physiotherapy services will vary greatly in
relation to where Physiotherapy works and deals with promotion, prevention,
healing and recovery of health .

HISTORY OF THE WORLD PHYSIOTHERAPY
Maybe
everyone already knows physiotherapy, but do you know what the history of
physiotherapy is? the beginning of physiotherapy, how is the formation of the
physiotherapy profession, let's look at the history of world physiotherapy, the
depiction of physiotherapy in the world varies in various countries, among
others:
•
In the United States, physiotherapy is usually referred to as Physical Therapy,
•
Physiotherapy (Indonesia),
•
Physiotherapy (European country),
•
Fysiotherapie (Netherlands)
The
above terms are essentially the same have values, concepts, paradigms that are
universal. Physiotherapy at that time was an old treatment in the Age of
Ancient Greece in the era of Hippocrates. Since then Physiotherapy has evolved
from simple massage to a complex portfolio of therapies with special
applications. Ancient Greece around 460 BC, Hector practiced Physiotherapy
techniques called "Hydrotherapy." Physiotherapy is currently still using
hydrotherapy, now developing and adapted specifically to various patient
conditions.
In
1894, physiotherapy in England was recognized as a specialized branch of
nursing organized by the Chartered Association. In the following two decades,
formal physiotherapy programs were established in other countries including New
Zealand (1913) and USA (1914). The first time American physiotherapists at
Walter Reed College and Hospital of Portland, Oregon where nurses with physical
education experience worked as "helpers reconstruction". As the
"reconstruction aide" made a vital contribution to the recovery and
rehabilitation of many doctors in the World War In 1921, Maria McMillan formed
the Physical Therapy Association in the United States. Subsequently renamed
APTA, this organization greatly influenced the development of physiotherapy in
America. Polio epidemics from the 1920s were a milestone in the profession of
physiotherapy. Sister Kinney, from the Mayo Clinic was achieved nationally
famous for working with victims of polio. The Warm Springs Georgia Foundation
was established in 1924 in response to the polio epidemic and provided
physiotherapy for polio patients.
After
the polio outbreak subsides, physiotherapy treatment mainly consists of
exercise, massage & traction. starting in 1950, chiropractic manipulation
was also introduced, most common in England at first. The specialty of
Orthopedics in physiotherapy also appears at the same time. From that date,
physiotherapy was extended from the hospital out to other areas of medical
treatment. Physiotherapy now works also in clinics, nursing homes, private
practice & schools. Research has long been a feature of modern
physiotherapy, originating from the first research study publication in the
United States in 1921. Research continues to be active today in various
specialties. A significant force in the evolution of physiotherapy has recently
become the International Orthopedic Federation of Manipulative Therapy. Leading
individuals drive technical changes and training that have included Mariano
Rocabado (Chile), Freddy Kaltenborn (Norway / USA), and Geoffrey Maitland
(Australia). During the 1980s, technology became the focus of changes in
physiotherapy. Procedure Novel computer features, electrical stimulation,
ultrasound and other new equipment. However, led by Freddy Kaltenborn, interest
is returned to manual therapy in the next decade. Along the development of
professional Physiotherapy training, and techniques continue to change and
improve. Gifted pioneers have contributed richly to the literature and
professional field organizations. Because of that, Physiotherapy has now gained
wide recognition and respect, with many young people expressing interest in the
profession of physiotherapy, as well as in Indonesia.

WHAT DOES PHYSIOTHERAPY DO
Physiotherapy recognizes & maximizes the
potential for motion that is associated with the scope of promotion,
prevention, healing or recovery.
Physiotherapy participates in the interaction
between Physiotherapists, patients or clients, families & health care
providers in the process of examining motion potential in efforts to enforce
agreed goals and treatment goals using unique Physiotherapy knowledge and
skills.
Mentioned in KEPMENKES 1363 Article 12
Physiotherapists in carrying out physiotherapy
practices are authorized to do;
a. Physiotherapy assessment which includes
examination and evaluation
b. Physiotherapy diagnosis
c. Physiotherapy planning
d. Physiotherapy intervention
e. Evaluation / re-evaluation / re-assessment.
a. Assessment
Assessment includes examinations & evaluations
on individuals or groups, real or potential for weakness, limited functioning,
disability or other health conditions by taking history taking, screening,
special tests, measurement and evaluation of examination results through
analysis and synthesis in a process of clinical consideration.
Examination of individuals or groups by taking,
actual or potential disorders, functional limitations, disabilities, or other
health conditions by:
• History Taking
• Screening
• Use of a Special Test
• Actions
b. Diagnosis
Diagnosis is made from examination & evaluation
stating the results of the process of clinical consideration / thinking, can be
a statement of the state of motion dysfunction, can include / include categories
of weakness, limitation of function, ability or disability.
Shows / expresses the presence of motion dysfunction
and can cover
- impairments,
- Functional limitations,
- Inability (disabilities),
- Syndrome (syndromes).
c. Planning
Planning begins with consideration of the need for interventions which
usually leads to the development of an intervention plan, including results in
accordance with measurable goals agreed to by the patient / client, family or
other health care providers. Can be an alternative planning thought to be
referred to other parties if it is deemed the case is not appropriate for
physiotherapy
d. Intervention
Interventions are implemented & modified to achieve agreed objectives
and can also include manual handling; increased movement; physical equipment,
electroterapuetis equipment and mechanical equipment; functional training;
determining assistance and assistive equipment; instruction and counseling;
documentation and coordination, communication.
Interventions can also be aimed at preventing abnormalities (weaknesses),
limited functioning, disability and injuries, including improving and
maintaining health, quality of life, fitness for all ages and all levels of
society.
Planning Procedures for interventions must refer to:
• Results of assessment (examination and evaluation), and diagnosis.
• Prognosis associated with increased condition
• Physiotherapy care plan, for example intensity, frequency, duration,
sequence etc.
• Also considered complexity and severity of clinical conditions
• consider the ability of the patient / client
• Expectations of patients / clients, families
In doing their own intervention, physiotherapists must do:
• Coordination, Communication and Documentation
• Patients / clients must do what instructed by physiotherapy
• Intervention Procedure
Physiotherapy is
involved in screening & prevention programs, health education and research.
Physiotherapists can be consultants in educational, health and social
institutions that are concerned with health care.
Broadly speaking, the
physiotherapist's actions are the responsibility of individual
physiotherapists, accompanied by their professional decisions that cannot be
controlled or compromised by employees, people from other professions or
others.
As a limitation of
correct professional autonomy, the physiotherapy profession has an ongoing
